High Watch was founded in 1940 by Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Help Yourself Overcome Addiction
You have an illness, you are not a bad person.
High Watch is a safe, comforting and spiritually nourishing environment for rehabilitation from drug and alcohol addiction. Bill Wilson remarked that the spiritual energy at High Watch was so thick you could cut it with a knife. This healing energy has offered hope and witnessed the transformation of thousands of lives since 1940.
We understand the struggle to cope with the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction because many of our staff have traveled on this journey. Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a chronic illness and relapse is part of the illness. Effective recovery from drug or alcohol addiction is possible after a stay at High Watch Recovery Center. We are here for you.

We are highly skilled at successfully healing those who suffer from substance abuse. Each resident receives customized, state of the art medical care in addition to learning the principles of how to stay sober from the thorough teachings of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Residents have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Janina Kean, our President & CEO, who did her graduate work studying addiction at Yale University. In addition to her studies, Janina has spent the last 30 years in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. She and her staff will do everything they can to help residents achieve the same success. We teach residents and families how to deal with this chronic illness so that they leave with the capability of 100% recovery if they continue to work the 12 Steps and follow the aftercare plan designed for them.
High Watch Recovery Center is a private, non-profit, residential recovery community requiring a minimum 21 day stay for acute care. NIDA (National Institute on Drug Addiction) recommends 100 days of intensive treatment for optimal success in trating substance abuse. This is the amount of time needed for the brain to reset itself. Many of our residents stay 100 days and longer.
Our accommodations are closer to a comfortable bed and breakfast than a medical institution. From the home cooked meals right down to the bedding, we continue to offer hope and solace while rehabilitating in this spiritually healing place. Always kind, our dedicated staff supports and believes in each person until they believe in themselves.
