Annual High Watch Picnic
Sunday, August 26, 2012
The rain did its best to hold back the crowds, but High Watch alum and friends made it up the Hill of Hope for the annual celebration. Vinny and Brad had their job cut out for them managing the parking in the rain. No one and nothing could dampen the spirit of the day. Festivities got under way in the chapel as Dr. Arcuni delivered a thoughtful talk on spirituality and medicine. Big Russ was busy commanding the kitchen crew who whipped up a delicious lunch of picnic favorites from burgers and dogs to pulled pork and chicken. All was yummy including the fresh fruit assortment which was a stunning sight to behold.
Familiar faces at the picnic included this year's guest speakers, Sister Rose (Al-Anon) and Sister Maurice (Alcoholics Anonymous). This November 13th, they'll return for their 9th annual Supper with the Sisters. The Sisters made a special appearance at the picnic as they were honored by High Watch with the Sister Francis Award. recognized the contributions of the Sisters in the field of recovery and presented the award. After a gracious acceptance of the award by the Sisters, the crowd was rewarded with an afternoon of entertaining storytelling. The laughter and love shared in their stories provided all the sunshine needed.
